I am thrilled to share a new, ongoing gallery series titled “The Grimoire.” I have a deep love of folklore and herbalism, some of it going back to my grandmother and mother, and as the drawings are a type of pencil-based watercolor, it also connects me to my other late grandmother who was a skilled watercolorist. It’s a challenging project because some of the mediums are newer to me and we need to learn to trust one another, but I really love this art. It’s one I’ve wanted to do for myself for years but didn’t quite have all the right materials. “The Grimoire” combines my writing with my drawings and photography. The information on the pages is a mixture of fact and folklore that I’ve memorized. I imagine it as the kind of book one might stumble across in a hidden corner of an antiques shop or something you might find when tasked with clearing out the home of a reclusive relative who has now departed and left this behind. I am aware there are accessibility issues with reading the lore aspect and absolutely plan to remedy this by typing up additional text in captions and alt-text, hopefully within the next few days. In the meantime, the galley can be found here: The Grimoire.
Enjoy!
